
Health Minister Sadiq bin Abdul-Kareem Al-Shehabi praised the efforts and medical accomplishments of the Ministry of Health (MoH) in combating non-contagious diseases, including diabetes.
The Minister ascribed the accomplishments to the directives of the Kingdom's leadership and the efforts of medical crews in boosting the level of health services and medical treatment for diabetic patients..
In his speech on the occasion of the International Diabetes Day which falls on November 14, the Minister said that the rate of diabetes incidence in the Kingdom of Bahrain is considered one of the highest.
A recent survey about non-contagious diseases found out that the rate of diabetes incidence amongst adult population above 20 years was 15.4% and reaches 20% if susceptible population are added.
According to statistics, new cases of type one in Bahrain like other countries is increasingly growth. Over the past ten years, the rate increased from 18 to 45 cases per year, and may reach 60 in a few years' time.
