The Ministry of Health in Casablanca, Morocco, has announced the death of a four-year-old boy from a case of meningitis, which has been laboratory-confirmed. In a statement today the Moroccan Health Ministry said it also confirmed the death of a member of the child’s family, an 80-year-old woman, and a child aged three and half years studying in same kindergarten in which the first child was studying. Sources said competent authorities at the ministry noticed, within sanitary and epidemiological investigations, that the kindergarten is overcrowded with each section receiving a number exceeding eighty children. The statement said in the wake of the deaths health authorities in Casablanca set up an intervention health team to conduct all health investigations and medical examinations for people who are in the vicinity of the three cases, and provide treatment and preventive medicines to the families and the surroundings of the deceased.
