Dubai - Arabstoday

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has extended its support and participated in the annual BurJuman Pink Walkathon, which was held in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority, to increase awareness of the early detection and prevention of breast cancer. Through its support, DEWA provided t-shirts for participants of the walkathon, in addition to hosting a pink caravan which provided passers-by with extensive information on the early detection, prevention, and information on breast cancer. One of the longest and most successfully-run breast cancer campaigns in the region, the BurJuman Pink Walkathon also recorded participation from over 13,000 people from or associated with DEWA. In line with its social responsibility, DEWA also organised a series of events and awareness lectures by the Women’s Committee, in addition to providing free check-ups for women and distribution of information to all staff through the company’s intranet, emails, and by SMS. During October, DEWA staff visited the Princess Haya bint Al Hussein Centre in Al Mazhar, Umm Al Sheif, in collaboration with the team from the Ministry of Health, to emphasis the importance of its ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign. “Our support for the ‘Safe & Sound’ campaign and the BurJuman Pink Walkathon underlines DEWA’s strategy to promote prevention of breast cancer through early detection. Through consolidated efforts by various government organisations this year, we focused on educating the community on the various steps that they can undertake to avoid breast cancer,” said Fatima Deemas, Vice Chairperson of DEWA’s Women’s Committee.
