Distribution of the Sovaldi drug for eligible hepatitis C patients has begun in Sharqiya Province, north east of Cairo.
The first phase includes giving the medication to 500 patients, Zagazig's head of the viral hepatitis center Ayman Zaki said Thursday.
Zaki said the patients were chosen after they introduced required documents about their health conditions that proved their need for such remedy.
He added that patients flocked to the center to apply for the new remedy.
The center dedicated nine clinics for receiving 300 patients daily from 12 to 6 p.m.
