Ebola outbreak kills 14 in Uganda

An outbreak of the Ebola virus in midwestern Uganda has killed 14 people, many in the past week, the Ugandan government said. The virus was identified as Ebola Sudan, a more common strain of the virus that typically kills more than 70 percent of those infected, The New York Times reported Saturday. The disease was first reported several weeks ago when a baby in the village of Nyanswiga died of the hemorrhagic fever, said a health official whose name was not reported. The baby\'s family has since lost eight other people to the disease, The Times reported. Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and the Ugandan government have been sent to the area to implement emergency response measures, the Ugandan government said in a statement Saturday. The CDC issued a statement Saturday saying it is attempting to trace \"all those who may have had contact with suspect or confirmed cases since early July.\"
