
The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is preparing to launch a new award for serving community as part of it community-driven initiatives in the education sector.
Preparations for launching the award ''Oun'' which means assistance in Arab were discussed during a meeting held by the ERC's volunteer unit.
Rashid Mohammed Al Kaabi, head of Volunteer Unit, said the ERC leadership is seeking through the community service award to empower schools so as to instill values of loyalty, belonging and culture of volunteerism among school children and the society at large.
The final goal, he added, is to implement these fine principles and values voluntary work on the reality.
The unit has devised an annual operational plan which features several community and awareness programmes with the aim of create better interaction between individuals and groups to assist those in need and mobilise human and material energies and resources for the service of humanitarian work.
''The award will create voluntary competition among the ERC's student volunteers in public and private schools and education institutes and centres across the country. Schools will required to present voluntary and humanitarian projects and best initiatives will be recognised in the annual award-giving ceremony,'' he said.
