Fujairah - Arabstoday

An Emirati child named Hamad Mohammed Saleh Al Kaabi was admitted to a Dibba-Fujairah hospital 15 years ago after falling inside a water basin in the family house when he was only 8 months old. Doctors had tried hard to save his life, but his health seriously deteriorated and he was pronounced clinically dead. Despite this, a team of doctors continued to treat him. According to Dr Abdullah Salim Al Kaabi, head of Dibba Fujairah hospital, Hamad is still receiving treatment and only divine providence as of date keeps him alive. On being admitted to the Dibba Fujairah hospital, the team of doctors which received him advised that he be shifted to Al Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi because of his serious condition. The medical check-up at the Abu Dhabi hospital showed that the child had clinically died as a result of cerebral palsy, physical disability, stiffness of muscles and quadriplegia due to severe damage to his head as a result of the fall. Meanwhile, recalling the accident, Hamad’s father said they found his body floating in the basin while his mother was drinking coffee with friends. They rushed Hamad to hospital where doctors told the family that he was dead. However, one of the doctors discovered that his heart was still beating. Doctors at the Dibba Fujairah hospital then moved Hamad to Al Mafraq hospital by copter, where he was pronounced clinically dead. Two years ago, Hamad had been admitted to a big hospital in Thailand under the sponsorship of General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, where doctors were of the view that his condition could get better with medical care. They moved him to Khalifa Hospital where his treatment was followed up by a Thai doctor who occasionally visited the hospital. Since Khalifa Hospital did not have a vacant bed for Hamad at the time, he was then shifted again to the Dibba Fujairah hospital.
