Over 200,000 European citizens from 20 European countries have appealed in a petition to King Philippe of the Belgians not to sign the bill that will extend the euthanasia to children, Belgian media reported Thursday. The petition argues that the Belgian legislation will have an effect on Europe and the whole world. Earlier this month, the lower house of the Belgian Parliament approved legislation that extends euthanasia to terminally ill children. The law however puts a number of conditions which include that euthanasia can only be carried out on under 18's if their suffering is unbearable and they are terminally ill. The children's parents also have to give a written consent.
