
The nephrologists warned Monday in Algiers, against the alarming increase in cases of kidney failure, up to 20,000 cases at present.The Head of Nephrology Ward at the Nefissa- Hamoud University Hospital (ex- Parnet), Professor Farid Hadoum said during DK News Daily Forum thatthe number of people with kidney failure has risen from 4,000 in 2002 to over 13,000 cases in 2010 to 19,400 cases in 2013.He recalled that the costs of caring for a kidney may reach 19,000 euros per year.The treatment of peritoneal costs 6,500 euros and kidney transplant 4,400 euros, he added, stressing that the state spent for kidney failure treatments five times more than a kidney transplant. On that occasion, Dr. Hadoum called to encourage organ transplants recalling that 100 kidney transplants had been performed in 2013, including 50 made ??by the Mohand-Maouche cardiology hospital (Algiers). The other transplant surgeries were carried out in hospitals of Tlemcen, Blida and Constantine.
