Kuwait is set to celebrate the International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3, aiming to raise awareness towards the needs and rights of this category of society.
Kuwait has been working on providing special needs people with all social and medical services required, while also giving them the opportunity to be part of all activities and events in the country to develop their experience and abilities in all fields.
In 2010, the country issued article number 8 regarding the rights of the disabled, following different international laws and agreements to achieve equality for these people.
Kuwait also established the Supreme Council for Disabled Affairs in accordance with article number 16/49 for 1996. The Council works on setting policies to fulfill the needs of the disabled, and monitors measures taken to provide them with their rights.
Moreover, the country established the Public Authority for Special Needs Affairs, which cooperates with the private sector in executing projects benefitting the disabled and providing them with job opportunities.
The General Secretariat of Awqaf also works on funding projects related to people with special needs, in cooperation with both public organizations and NGOs.
