
The WHO and the Joint UN Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) have appointed Kuwaiti Dr. Hind Al-Shomer a regional advisor for the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East and North Africa regions AIDS program.
Dr. Al-Shomer's task will be preparing and qualifying trainers, she told KUNA on Saturday.
She will help them gain the necessary knowledge and skills in line with the latest world developments in the field as well as the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on AIDS prevention, Al-Shomer, Chairperson of the AIDS Data and Statistics Office at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, added.
This is part of the preparation for the post- 2015 MDGs, which will seek to carry on with successes, reducing deaths because of AIDS and broadening the range of treatment, amond many other aims, she noted.
Al-Shomer noted that she had taken part in preparing the guidance books and the training material.
The choice is recognition by the WHO of Kuwait's efforts on the prevention and treatment since AIDS was emerged. Kuwait was among the first world countries that issued a law on the prevention of AIDS, law 62/1992.
