Salmonella causes organic egg recall

Health authorities in Minnesota say six cases of salmonella poisoning have been linked to organic eggs from a farm south of the Twin Cities. Several thousand cartons of eggs produced or packaged at the farm in Owatonna and sold under three brand names were voluntarily recalled late Wednesday after an investigation by state and federal agencies made the link, the farm\'s owner said. \"I started in this business in the first place because I think of my customers,\" Larry Schultz told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. \"I want to give them peace of mind.\" The eggs, under the brand names Larry Schultz Organic Farm, Lunds & Byerly\'s Organic and Kowalski\'s Organic, had been shipped to supermarkets, restaurants, food wholesalers and food-service companies in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, the newspaper said. The six salmonella cases were reported from Aug. 12 to Sept. 24, all in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, state officials said. Three people required hospitalization but have been released.
