Manama - Bna

Men have their breakfast meal more steadily than women according to a new study conducted by the University of Bahrain. The study included a survey of 294 Bahraini men and women that resulted with 76% of men that have their breakfast meal every morning while 54% women do. The study was led by Dr. Abdul Rahman Musaiqar President of Food and Health studies unit at the UoB with Science student Zainab Hussain Faris, which explained that 44% of men take their breakfast at their work while 16% of women did, as the study proved that a high percentage of women are householders and not working mothers. Results also showed that 46% of men spend at least 2 hours per day watching television, while 30% of women agreed, and 6% of both men and women pointed they rarely ever watch T.V. 44% of men and women noted that watching T.V is usually associated with dinner. As the study warned against watching television for more than 2 hours per day, which risks overweight and obesity, as the T.V\'s distraction tends to allow people to consume more than they need which is unhealthy. Results also concluded that 78% of men use the Internet daily while 77% of women do, and 35% men 43% women use it for more than 2 hours per day. As for physical activity, numbers confirmed that 57% of men 26% women practice some type of exercise on a regular basis. Walking or jogging is the most common exercise which is practiced by 2% women and 19% men only! The Study pointed out that lack of physical exercises may lead to diseases like heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. As for smoking, the study pointed that 37% men and 8% women are smokers, while 36% men and 60% women are Sheesha smokers. 30% men and 36% women are second hand smokers. The study also confirmed that 25% of men and 10% women sleep for less than 6 hours a day which puts them with high risks of diseases caused by lack of sleep. As the study also showed that 45% of men and 34% of women take a more than an hour nap daily after having lunch, on the other hand 19% men 36% women don’t take that nap. 9% men and 24% women suffer restlessness or lack of sleep, while 42% men and 26% women don’t, as for the remaining percentage which suffers restlessness occasionally. The Study pointed those long naps that come right after lunch time is an unhealthy habit, which leads to stomach burn, due to the flow of gastric acid into the esophagus during sleep, noting that long naps in the afternoon reduce the chances of adequate sleep at night which is essential to the body.
