The trial has begun for a Pakistani immigrant who allegedly beat his wife to death in their Brooklyn home because she served him a meatless dinner instead of the goat meat he had asked for. According to the New York Post, Noor Hussein beat his 66-year-old wife, Nazar Hussein, until she was a "bloody mess" because she served him lentils instead of meat. "Defendant asked [his wife] to cook goat and [his wife] said she made something else," according to court papers. "The conversation got louder and [his wife] disrespected defendant by cursing at defendant and saying [expletive] and that the defendant took a wooden stick and hit her with it on her arm and mouth." The 75-year-old's attorney, Julie Clark, is arguing that her client is only guilty of manslaughter because he comes from a place where wife beating is normal and didn't mean to kill her. "He comes from a culture where he thinks this is appropriate conduct, where he can hit his wife," Clark said in Brooklyn Supreme Court. "He culturally believed he had the right to hit his wife and discipline his wife." Despite Clark's claims, prosecutors plan to argue that Hussein intentionally killed his wife.
