WHO honours Kuwait's Dr Khaled al-Saleh

Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh said Monday he was very proud because his country, Kuwait, was a pioneer via the establishment of the region's first Palliative Care Center (PCC), which consisted of 92 beds.
Al-Saleh made the statement after he was honored by the World Health Organization's (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean with the State of Kuwait prize for the fight against cancer, heart diseases and diabetes.
Addressing the award ceremony, Al-Saleh talked about the story of mankind and cancer. He said curing cancer jumped from 49 percent in 1971-77 to 68 percent on 2003-09.
He said the road was long for the complete treatment of cancer, but a success could be achieved with the collaboration of WHO, research centers and doctors.
Representatives from 22 countries, regional and international organizations, and 16 ministers attended the award ceremony. They appreciated Al-Saleh's dedication in the radiology tumor treatment domain.
