Wrong medications given to R.I. patients

The operator of several hospitals in Rhode Island says as many as 2,000 patients may have received the wrong forms of medication since last fall. Hospital operator Lifespan said a software problem caused the incorrect medications to be administered, The Providence Journal reported Wednesday. Hospitals affected include Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children's Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Bradley Hospital and Newport Hospital, Lifespan said in its announcement. Most of the patients affected by the issue have been contacted, Lifespan said. It did not disclose whether any patients had been harmed or suffered ill-effects from the incorrect medications.
