Twenty-five elements of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) were killed on Friday in Anbar province, a senior officer said.
Police and army forces backed by tribesmen have repulsed an attack by ISIS elements on a power station in the west of Anbar, Abdul Hakim Al-Jughaifi said.
Iraq is battling Islamist militants, who have seized control of cities in the country's north-west.
The current conflict in Iraq has acquired strong sectarian overtones, with disputes between the Kurds, the Sunnis and the Shia.
The Shia-led government is struggling against predominantly Sunni ISIS fighters, and other Sunni rebel groups.
