Three civilians were killed in an armed attack in southern Tikrit, located some 160 kilometers northwest of Baghdad, Al-Sumariya TV Satellite reported.
An Iraqi police source said unidentified gunmen opened machine gun fire at a vehicle carrying a family, leaving three persons killed.
The injured were moved to the hospital, while security forces were deployed to secure the area in anticipation of any other possible attacks.
Violence and attacks in Baghdad are a recurring issue that claims the lives of scores of persons whether civilians or security members.
