As many as 52 Daesh militants have been killed in military operations launched by the Iraqi joint forces, backed by the US-led coalition, in Baiji city of Saladin province, security and local sources said on Friday.
The Iraqi joint forces repelled an attack carried out by Daesh elements on Iraq's Baiji oil refinery in northwestern Tikrit city and killed 29 militants, the sources added.
Although the Iraqi troops fended off the Daesh attack, the militants managed to set ablaze five tanks of crude oil, according to the sources.
The US-led coalition aircraft and Iraqi warplanes pounded Daesh positions in Baiji city.
The air strikes resulted in killing 23 militants, destroying seven Daesh sites and burning three vehicles used by Daesh militants, the sources asserted. (MENA)
