A statement by the Algerian Presidency on Monday night announced the previous Water Resources Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, is to become First Minister in the new government. He is to succeed Ahmed Ouyahia. He was appointed by the Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, four months on from legislative elections which took place on May 10. The president was expected to form a new Algerian cabinet twenty days after the election\'s end. Employing Ouyahia came from the executive system according to the rules of article 77, 5th paragraph. The statement read, \"The Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, ended yesterday night the mission of the first minister Ahmed Ouyahia who resigned from the government.\" Arabstoday sources discovered that President Bouteflika asked the new first minister to consult with other parties to form a new cabinet. Abdelmalek Sellal was born on August 1 1948, in the mandate of Constantine, eastern Algeria. He graduated from the High School of Administration in Algiers and previously held several ministerial positions including minister of the interior, youth, public works, water resources and now First Minister. Abdelmalek Sellal is considered to be close to the Algerian President as he supported Bouteflika in his election campaigns and activated them in the years 1999, 2004 and 2009. The president is expected to announce the rest of the ministers in the new cabinet in the coming hours.
