One Yemeni soldier has been killed and another injured in an ambush believed to have been carried out by extremist group, al-Qaeda. Militants ambushed an army convoy, targeting an armoured vehicle, in Kuraiysha on Saturday. Armed men then fired on troops. The attack represents a “clear violation” of a truce signed between Yemen’s armed forces and tribal elements loyal to al-Qaeda, sources told Arabstoday. The Gulf state has witnessed violent clashes throughout February, after the Yemeni army battled with pro-al-Qaeda tribesman across the country.
