The Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Mourad Medelci stated that the inability of Arab countries to come up with a cohesive and clear solution to annihilate the Syrian crisis was only making matters worse. Medelci believes that the Syrian crisis has increased immensely and disputes between parties to finalise decisions is complicating the mission of the UN envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. He, however, expressed his hope to find a united Arab solution as soon as possible adding: "We hope that the Syrian regime will then take these new conditions into consideration to help put some and order and reform back onto the country and resolve the issues promptly.” Medelci welcomed and praised the Quartet initiative of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran that was launched by Egyptian President, Mohammed Morsi during a meeting in Mecca. He said that this could possibly be a strong and effective force in providing conciliation, but believes the Egyptian initiative still requires more detail regarding the two conflicting parties in Syria. In a separate context, Minister Mourad Medelci ruled out the possibility of any clashes with Iran due to its nuclear program. He said that Algeria’s stance remains unchanged regarding any country’s desire to develop its capabilities in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. "There is no evidence that Iran intends to develop its nuclear capabilities for non-peaceful uses. All the statements of the Iranian officials in Tehran summit assure that Iran does not intend to use nuclear energy for non-peaceful purposes" Medelci concluded.
