
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal met with EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on Sunday. Algeria and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding to develop energy cooperation, EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said. \"This is a strategic document, a tool to develop energy cooperation between Algeria and the EU,\" he told a news conference. The agreement covers a broad section of cooperation in the conventional and renewable energy sectors, as well as the transfer of technology, and is expected to help boost investment in Algeria. Barroso started his two-day visit to Algeria on Saturday and was received by the Algerian prime minister. On Saturday, the European commission president said that the European Union wants to establish \"even closer\" ties with Algeria in the economic and political fields.
