The Algerian Workers Party boycotted the speech Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered to parliament in Algeria on Tuesday. "We boycotted in solidarity with the Turkish people and to condemn the Turkish position in the so-called Arab Spring," the group's president, Djelloul Djoudi said. During a press conference held on Tuesday, the party stated that they respect the Algerian government and its sovereign decisions, but are opposed to the approach adopted by the Turkish government. Turkey has recently experienced five days of anti-government demonstrations, costing the lives of two people. Public workers on Tuesday launched a two-day strike in support of the protests. The Algerian Workers Party criticised the Turkish regime’s method of dealing with the demonstrators. The organisation warned of repercussions resulting from the current unrest in Turkey, adding that the government works to appease the US administration in the Middle East. The party also praised the decision taken by the Algerian government to cancel the debts owed to 14 African states in addition to Iraq and Yemen.
