Public prosecution investigations showed that the terrorist cell that was referred to the military judiciary for being behind Karnak Temple attack in June has received its instructions from Ansar Bait al Maqdis.
The militant group assigned the 12-strong cell to target tourists visiting the temple with machine guns and explosives and ordered two members, a Tunisian and a Sudanese, to blow themselves up inside the temple but they were intercepted by security forces, investigators said.
Two assailants were killed and one injured in a thwarted attack at Karnak Temple in Luxor in June. Five persons, including a policeman, were injured in the attack.
The defendants confessed of adopting the radical ideology of Daesh militant group and supporting their terrorist acts in Iraq, Syria and Libya.
The terrorist cell was planning to carry out hostile acts against the Armed Forces and police, terrifying citizens, disrupting Constitution, destabilizing security, spreading chaos and harming national unity.
