Baghdad - Ja’afar Alnasrawi

Five people, including two policeman, have been killed and nine injured in an attack on a government complex in Al-Ramadi in Iraq. The attack came as gunmen attempted to gain control of the buildings. The gunmen were accompanied by a car bomb and three suicide bombers. The deputy chairman of the Anbar province, Saadoun Obaid al-Shaalan, told Arabstoday that the suicide bombers were wearing army uniforms. Al-Shaalan said that police killed one of the suicide bombers, but the other two blew themselves up, killing two people. Most of the nine people injured were members of the Iraqi security forces. Saadoun added that \"the carbomb was parked at a petrol station next to the government compound. It’s likely that the car bomb was aimed at distracting security forces so that the gunmen could gain access to the building.” The complex includes the city’s central government, the office of Anbar’s Governor, the provincial council, the satellite channel Al-Anbar, the Office of the Integrity Commission, and a number of other government offices. The complex was also attacked on December 27 2010, resulting in the death of 14 people, including four members of the security forces. 52 others, which were mainly civilians, were injured and 12 vehicles were burned.
