Baghdad-area bombings kill at least 9

A series of bombings in and around the Iraqi capital Baghdad killed at least nine people on Monday, security and medical officials said. The three car bombs and one magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to a vehicle also wounded at least 25 others, the sources said. The latest bloodshed came a day after attacks in various areas of Iraq, including another string of bombings in Baghdad province, killed 19 people, including a TV presenter and a family of five. The presenter, Nawras al-Nuaimi, was the sixth journalist to be killed in Iraq since October, five of whom died in the northern city of Mosul. Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, when the country was emerging from a period of brutal sectarian conflict. More than 6,450 people have been killed in violence since the beginning of the year, according to AFP figures based on security and medical sources. Source: AFP
