Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ghanim bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain attended the Arab foreign ministers’ urgent meeting, which convened at the Arab league general-secretariat in Cairo. The session discussed developments of the situation in Syria, in light of the consultations undertaken by the UN-Arab envoy to Syria Lakhdar Ebrahimi with countries concerned by the Syrian crisis, in addition to ongoing preparations in the run-up to the Geneva-2 Conference, likely to be held this month. In a statement, Mr. Al-Bouainin stressed the Arab countries’ strong desire to achieve stability in Syria and back all international efforts aimed at engaging concerned parties to take the necessary steps towards addressing the Syrian crisis and its pitfalls. He affirmed Bahrain’s stance, appreciating the efforts led by the UN-Arab envoy to Syria Lakhdar Ebrahimi to pave the way for the Geneva-2 Conference on Syria. He hoped the Geneva conference would yield the desired results that achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people to democracy and political pluralism and put an end to the flagrant human rights violations, which are being committed through the use of all types of lethal weapons, leaving thousands of people dead and millions others displaced. The minister reiterated Bahrain’s keenness on achieving peace, security and stability in Syria and firm commitment, along with friendly countries, to seek the solutions which may contribute to the achievement of this eventual goal. Mr. Al-Bouainain affirmed the keenness of Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, on the commitment of the international community to achieve security and peace in Syria and ensure its people peaceful life and dignity as well as all inalienable human and civic rights.
