At least seven Taliban militants have been killed and eight others injured as clash flared up in Burka district of the northern Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital 160 km north of Kabul on Friday, a local official said.
"A group of Taliban rebels stormed Burka district early Friday but police resisted forcing militants to flee after leaving seven dead bodies and eight others injured behind," district police chief Mohammad Ali told Xinhua.
Sporadic fighting is still going on, the official said, predicting that the militants may launch more attacks possibly on Friday night.
However, the official avoided commenting on possible casualties of security personnel in the firefight.
Taliban militants haven't commented on the situation in Burka district.
