Clashes taking place between protesters and security forces in the area surrounding the American Embassy in Cairo near Tahrir Square have intensified. Some protesters threw stones at the security forces who in return fired teargas canisters. A source inside the embassy told Arabstoday that the situation is more or less stable in the perimeter of the embassy and that clashes are further off in the Qasr al-Ayni area. Witnesses said that dozens of protesters gathered in Omar Makram and started throwing stones at the security forces present there. Central Security Forces armoured vehicles advanced into the crowd, pushing the protesters back into Tahrir Square.
