A member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Mohammed Dahlan, congratulated the election lists chosen by the Fatah Central Committee in the local elections, held on Sunday in the West Banks. In a press statement, Dahlan said that the “real Fatah sons” won with the satisfaction and the trust of the people, despite the policies exclusion, division, temptations and intimidation practised by a group in the Central Committee. He feels the latter group works on destroying Fatah and treats it as if it were a private benefice to serve personal interests. He added that this is an accomplishment which proves the urgent need to unite the members of Fatah and achieve the national unity. Dahlan also added that the elections in Gaza are a right and a duty which should not be opposed by Hamas and that they should know that escaping this duty does not give them legitimacy. Well informed Palestinian sources said that the local elections held Sunday in the West Bank saw a hidden clash between the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas and the dismissed leader of Fatah, Mohamed Dahlan. Despite his presence outside the Palestinian territory, Dahlan formed election lists that were strongly competitive with those formed by the central committee of Fatah movement let by “Abu Mazen”, especially in the main cities in the West Bank like the political weight of Ramallah where the Palestinian leadership is present. An informed Palestinian source said that the preliminary results of the local authority election indicates the most of the election lists supported by Mohammed Dahlan won and got the majority of the municipality seats in the big cities of the West Bank, topped by Ramallah and Nablus.
