A representative of the United Nations Mission in Darfur, UNAMID, expressed concerns over a recent wave of violence between rival Sudanese tribes in East Darfur. Mohammed Shambas called for immediate dialogue between fighters belonging to the Maalia, Rizeigat and Adeela clans, following clashes which have killed 100 people this year, according to tribal sources. Around 300,000 people were displaced in the first five months alone, the peace-keeping mission said. UNAMID said it had sent a number of officials to meet with tribal leaders, and mediate a peace deal between the different factions.
