Egypt’s Coptic Coalition has announced its participation in today’s January 25 anniversary demonstrations, coinciding with the organisation’s own anniversary of its foundation as a rights group aiming to protect the rights of Egypt’s Christians. Copts would participate in two marches in Cairo, the organisation said, with other demonstrations organised in main squares in governorates across Egypt. The coalition condemned recent events, highlighting President Mohammed Morsi’s “non-consensual constitution,” economic deterioration and neglecting the lives of ordinary citizens. The Coptic Coalition stressed its members would march peacefully to achieve the original demands of the January 25 revolution: “Bread, freedom and social justice.” They demanded Egypt’s security officials protect peaceful demonstrators.
