Egypt president to attend African summit

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has accepted an invitation to the upcoming African Summit, officials say. African Union leaders are scheduled to meet July 15-16 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Egypt Independent reported. Former President Hosni Mubarak stopped attending the meetings after he survived an assassination attempt in the Ethiopian capital in 1995. Jean Ping, chairman of the AU Commission and former foreign minister of Gabon, told the Middle East News Agency Morsi is scheduled to give a speech during the opening session. The summit was moved from Malawi to Ethiopia because the government of Malawi did not want Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to attend. Bashir has been charged with war crimes by the International Criminal Court.
