Egypt’s police arrest Brotherhood supporters

Egypt’s Interior Ministry said on Wednesday that security forces had arrested 54 people in the village of Bahaeddin, in the Siwa district 560km from Cairo, on suspicion of being involved in pro-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrations on Sunday, in which hundreds of supporters were killed.  The suspects were attempting to flee into neighbouring Libya. Meanwhile a further 36 suspected Islamists were detained in Cairo, for allegedly participating in sit-in protests at a camp in Al-Nahda Square, the ministry added. Security forces have tightened their grip on any anti-government sentiment across the country, in an effort to drive out pro-Muslim Brotherhood followers. Egyptian police said they have arrested a Jordanian man with American citizenship, from a hotel in Port Said city.  The suspect named Fady Youssef al-Mozen was said to have been carrying several bullet-proof vests, an i-Pad, three mobile phones and money in different currencies.  Upon examining his movements, the police said the suspect entered the country through Israel on August 15.  He was accused of participating in demonstrations on august 18. In Port Said city, north east Egypt, security officials arrested 2 Salafists accused of attacking a police headquarters. The police found on them a machine gun, cartridges and ammunition.
