Egypt to try 163 Brotherhood members for murder

Egyptian prosecutors on Wednesday referred 163 alleged members of ousted president Mohamed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood to trial on murder charges over protests in second city Alexandria, a judicial source said.
Morsi's Islamist supporters have faced a sweeping police crackdown since his ouster by the army last July that has left more than 1,400 people dead and over 15,000 in jail.
About 200 have been sentenced to death after often speedy mass trials.
The 163 accused have been charged with the murder of 29 people and the attempted murder of others during clashes in the Mediterranean city.
The clashes erupted two days after police broke up pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo on August 14 in which hundreds were killed.
Of the 163 accused, 158 are in custody.
The authorities designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a "terrorist organisation" in December after blaming it for a deadly bombing north of Cairo.
