Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy reiterated on Monday that the Egyptian government is doing what it can to pave the way for serious national reconciliation talks in the near future. Fahmy said the government is working towards ensuring the participation of different parties as long as they do not use violence as a method to deal with their opposition. He expressed the authorities’ commitment to the security of all Egyptians, emphasizing their wish to implement the road map drafted by the army, adding that the current sit-ins in Cairo by supporters of deposed president Mohammed Morsi, threaten the security of the country. Furthermore, Fahmy said Egypt welcomed attempts by foreign countries to resolve the current situation in the country, but noted that it continues to have a right to make its own decisions. He added that the European Union realizes that the current transitional government is committed to the road map to pave the way for establishing a democratic state based on full equality amongst citizens regardless of their religion, color or political affiliation.
