The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided to suspend the Premier League temporarily in the wake of deadly clashes that took place outside the Air Defense Stadium.
Around 19 Zamalek fans, known as Ultras White Knights, were killed and 20 others wounded in clashes with police before a Premier League match between Zamalek and Enppi.
The EFA board said it will remain in session to follow up consequences of the tragic incidents.
The board also decided to freeze a decision to allow football fans to attend matches.
In an earlier statement, the Interior Ministry said clashes erupted when Zamalek fans tried to attend the game without buying tickets, forcing the police to fire tear gas to disperse them.
