Protests outside Egyptian interior minister’s home

Anti-government protesters surrounded the house of Egypt’s interior minister, to demonstrate against the treatment of political activists in recent months. A number of members of the April 6 Movement, an opposition party in Egypt, gathered outside Mohammed Ibrahim’s house on the outskirts of Cairo on Friday, to protest against what the group called “harsh policies against members of the movement.” Demonstrators were spotted chanting political slogan and calling for the release of detained activists arrested during recent rallies at Tahrir Square. As part of his role in the Interior Ministry, Ibrahim is in charge of the country’s police, which have often been criticised for their harsh treatment of protesters. In addition, the Egyptian government has repeatedly come under fire for arresting anti-government politicians and journalists in recent weeks. Although it is not clear whether Friday’s rally outside Ibrahim’s house turned violent, security forces reportedly used the teargas to disperse the demonstrators.
