Egyptian army spokesperson Colonel Ahmed Mohammed Ali, has rubbished media reports about the existence of a secret military-run prison in the area of Agroud, Suez Governorate. In his weekly blog post, Ali wrote: "The military forces deny the existence of any secret prisons run by the armed forces in the city of Suez or any other Egyptian cities. The reports are untrue and factually incorrect." Colonel Ali issued a challenge to anyone with evidence of the prison's existence to speak to the Ministry of Defence. "We are happy for anyone with concrete evidence to come forward with information and put the evidence before the Egyptian media," he added. The military official claimed that media reports about secret prisons had a negative impact on the morale of Egyptian soldiers who would fight tooth and nail to defend the nation of Egypt. Ali urged Egyptian media outlets to maintain objectivity and accuracy in their coverage, and think twice about reporting false claims about the armed forces, in the interest of national security.
