Leaders of Egypt’s opposition National Salvation Front (NSF) have condemned the passage of Israeli destroyers through the Suez Canal. Wafd Party leader in Suez, and a member of the NSF, Ali Amin said: “People in Suez still want revenge against Israel.” A tea vendor was arrested after he threw rocks at the vessels. Amin claimed the man had done so because he “couldn’t stand” seeing an Israeli flag on Egyptian soil. “If this is insanity then we’re all insane,” the Wafd member added. Suez was a key strategic point during the 1973 Yom Kippur War, still seen today as an emblem of Egyptian resistance.
