Cairo - Mohamed Al Shinawi

Mohamed Elbaradei, the former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency and who is currently a Presidential candidate in Egypt, has directed a sharp criticism at the Military council stating that they have failed miserably at leading Egypt. Elbaradei warned of the bankruptcy Egypt will be facing in 6 months time if its internal situation did not calm down. The candidate’s criticisms came during a meeting with a number of workers at the CTUWS in Helwan city. The scientist, who won a Noble Prize in 2005, called on the Military Council to stop the military trial of civilians and to opnely talk to Egyptians, adding that if the Council did not openly and clearly speak to the nation they will end up losing everyone. Furthermore, he demanded the end of the Emergency Law as soon as possible, stressing that the Council can respond and implement all those demands within one week. Elbaradei stressed at the meeting the importance of industrialization and the importance of advancing within this sector in Egypt, which he said has not been fully invested in up to this day. Additionally, he pointed out that production in Egypt should be 3 times as much as it is now. Furthermore, Elbaradei said: “we must have a plan for an incentive program for production during the transition phase, which I predict will last up to 18 months. But in order to do that we need political reforms starting with the ending of the Emergency Law and the activation of the political Isolation Law, in addition to putting in place a Constitution which meets everyone’s consensus. We have the right to fight for our rights.” He added that the economical situation in Egypt is ‘extremely bad,’ stating that it is important to pay employees a fair amount of money for the number of hours they work, in addition to giving them their health and social insurance as required, and for their right to create parties. Moreover, Elbaradei criticized political parties for their disagreements between each other and said that they need to agree now for the sake of Egypt. Elbaradei was doubtful of the current government and Military Council’s ability in running the country due to their lack of experience.
