
Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC) and Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, held a round of official talks in Abu Dhabi today.
They discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them, as well as issues of mutual interest, international developments, the two country's positions on important issues and the need for international cooperation to counter terrorism and extremism.
In a press conference which followed the talks, Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi said she accepted an invitation to head an FNC delegation on a visit to Russia. She also extended an invitation to Valentina Matviyenko to attend the femal speakers conference, to be held in the UAE in December.
The two sides stressed the important role played by the parliaments in boosting political, economic, commercial and investment relations between the UAE and Russia to the levels aspired by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin. They also noted the interest to develop relations by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The meeting was attended by a number of FNC members, as well as the Russian Ambassador Alexander Efimov, and the members of the delegation accompanying the Russian Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
