Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea has condemned what he calls “illogical and unacceptable behaviour” by Shiite radical group Hezbollah. The right-wing movement leader has called for an end to Hezbollah interference in Syria, claiming the group’s involvement has led to the deaths of Lebanese citizens and threatens to destabilise the country. The army must deploy forces along the border to halt the repeated bombing of border villages, he said. Geagea also attacked Hezbollah-linked March 8 forces politicians for attempting to deseat him within the Lebanese Forces party. “March 8 have been trying to smear me as a counter-productive figure in Lebanon,” he said. “It’s unacceptable in a democratic regime.” Geagea expressed his hopes for a new “effective” government, to be led by acting Prime Minister Tammam Salam, warning against turning it into a “wasted opportunity for the Lebanese people.”
