German police arrest another suspect after attack plot tip-off

German police on Wednesday arrested another suspect in connection with a possible attack plot, according to a statement by police and the prosecutor's office.

The suspect was arrested in the town of Dinslaken on Wednesday, said a joint press release by the police and prosecutor in Duisburg city.

The suspect is linked to the 24-year-old Syrian refugee who was detained in Mutterstadt city on Friday, said the press release. The latter is believed to have acted on behalf of the Islamic State (IS). Reports said earlier that he was thought to be plotting an attack in Germany.

The Interior Ministry of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where Duisburg is located, said police launched raids early Wednesday in the cities of Dortmund, Duisburg, Duesseldorf and Toenisvorst. The raids targeted at several suspected supporters of IS, searching five apartments and a shop.

Germany has witnessed a series of recent attacks on its soil.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel in July announced a nine-point plan including the expulsion of convicted asylum seekers, adopting an early warning system for radicalization among refugees, and joint exercises of the police and armed forces.
