Mousa Abu Marzouk, member of Hamas political bureau has demanded Gaza's Interior Minister, Fathi Hammad, to give an explanation following a statement made two weeks ago regarding young Gazan men and their “manliness.” Fathi Hammad affirmed that Gaza security forces have been instructed to “keep an eye on those reducing standards of manliness," with young men with long hair being rounded up and forced to get “appropriate” hair styles as well as reports of men being beaten by mobs for wearing low-cut or hip-hugging jeans. On his Facebook page, Abu Marzouk said on Friday: "I appeal to my dear brother, Mr Fathi Hammad, to explain the 'manhood' level, as there is a sharp difference between his statement and its success." Hammad's remarks have raised an overwhelming resentment and disapproval among human right organisations, citizens as well as within Hamas itself.
