Tareq al-Hashemi, the Iraqi Vice President, has warned the Iraqi President and the parliament speaker against the government’s violation of human rights. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani received several messages from Hashemi, in which the latter described the living conditions of Iraqi detainees. In an interview, Hashemi said: “I respect Mr Talabani, I have worked with him for six years now. I didn’t expect to be let down by the President, but he let the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, insult our government without doing anything to stop him. Arab and Turkish officials keep asking the President the reason of such practice. He does not know. Maliki admitted the existence of human rights violations in our prisons, only days after announcing such occurrence no longer happened on Iraqi soil.”
