Pakistani lawmakers on Tuesday elected businessman Mamnoon Hussain the 12th president of Pakistan, state-owned channel PTV reported. As the candidate of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N party his election was considered certain in the two-man race to replace the President Asif Ali Zardari, whose term expires in September. Unofficial showed that he had won a convincing majority in both houses of the National Assembly, and is on course to win a large majority in Punjab. Local media has reported that he is likely to secure more than 400 of the 674 electoral votes. Additional source: AFP
