The Iraqi troops said they managed to recapture areas of Daesh-controlled Fallujah in Anbar province, killing 80 militants of the terrorist group.
The Iraqi government officially announced the launch of a military campaign to liberate areas under Daesh control in Anbar province.
“Iraqi joint forces are on the alert to liberate the embattled towns of Fallujah and Ramadi in Anbar, but no timeframe has been set yet,” Brigadier General Yahia Rasoul, a spokesman for Iraq’s Defense Ministry, said.
Fallujah, 69 kilometers west of Baghdad, has been under Daesh control since last summer, but it has been besieged by the Iraqi army.
