The joint Iraqi forces thwarted Friday an attack launched by Daesh terrorist group on Khalidiya in Anbar province.
The forces also managed to free two villages in Fallujah from the control of the extremist organization.
Fierce clashes erupted at dawn between the Iraqi forces and Daesh in Khalidiya, according to security sources.
The Iraqi army forces shelled sites of Daesh, the sources said, adding that military reinforcements arrived to the site of the clashes.
The joint Iraqi forces restored two villages in Fallujah, the sources underscored, noting that the forces cordoned off the city in a step to fully liberate it from Daesh.
The forces managed to kill about 100 elements of Daesh in Fallujah over the past 24 hours, said the head of Anbar State Council Sabah Karhout.
